Job description
Jacoby & Games CPAs is looking for a new CPA articling student. We invite you to apply if you are interested in working in a small, tight- knit office that is preapproved by BC CPA for articling students.
Our firm has been in business for over 28 years in Victoria and service is our priority. We know our clients by first name and many have been with us for over fifteen years.
Duties will include:
- Preparation of complete financial statements and corporate tax returns with all supporting material, referencing, adjusting journal entries and checklists
- Reconciliations of; bank accounts, credit cards, all CRA accounts (GST, corporate tax and payroll), shareholder, inter-company, and dividends
- When required, bookkeeping preparation, and posting of client transactions (write-ups) directly into year-end working papers
- Preparation of complete personal tax returns including rentals and self-employment schedules with all necessary supporting material
- Preparation of T-4s and T-5 slip including supporting material
- Assisting with client and CRA inquiries as required
- Other administrative, accounting, tax tasks as required
- Greeting clients and visitors to our office and answers telephones with professionalism when receptionist is not available
- Working closely with clients in person, on the phone and via email.
Skills and experience required:
- Ideally all pre-requisites required for entry into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) between September 2023 and September 2024 (no courses may be taken from Feb to April 2022 due to tax time)
- Completely fluent in English both written and verbal
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional projection is required
- Must take pride in personal appearance
- Open to new challenges and assignments with a can-do attitude
- Able to meet deadlines and work in an environment with frequent interruptions and conflicting priorities
- And a commitment to work extended hours during the months of January through April (minimum of 10 hours per week and 100 hours over entire tax time)
- Work experience (or a Co-op) in a Canadian CPA accounting or bookkeeping firm would be of benefit.
Benefits:
- $50,000 per year, with annual reviews in late September/early October
- All CPA BC and CPA Canada fees and all CPA PEP education fees are paid by our firm upon successful completion of each course
- Flexible compensation for overtime worked (time off and/or paid out, both at a rate of time and a half)
- Birthdays are celebrated, Starbucks many Friday’s in tax time, lunches on Saturdays in tax time (purchased from our restaurant clients) plus our monthly staff dinners, plus Christmas and tax time dinners
- Company health benefit plan after completion of the three-month probationary period

- Ideally completed 3 years of Camosun College BBA Accounting program or the 1st year of the Post Degree Diploma program (no courses may be taken from January to April due to tax time)
